Loved & Lost was created as an experiment, running from March to August of 2011. Now that we are well into Spring in Melbourne, the project is essentially dormant.

Many thanks to all contributors for giving Loved & Lost a little go.

As seen here at our online noticeboard, the results of the project were interesting, somewhat minimal and inconclusive. However, given the overwhelmingly positive response that greeted the general idea, there are plans to pick up where we left off in 2012.

Found, in a daze, Tuesday August 16, just inside the Carlton Gardens (near corner Rathdowne/Carlton)

Between 11am and noon? It was a bright day.

Large ‘Thinsulate’ fingerless glove – mens RH. Grey knit outer with soft insulating lining.

Found July 11, around 8pm, on a table outside the Napier Hotel on Napier Street, Fitzroy, (has since vacationed in East Brunswick).

Ladies LH glove, medium size. Leather outer with zig-zag ‘points’; elasticised at wrist; black fleece lining. Fine leather piping at wrist.

Found July 25, around 4pm, on Grattan Street near Rathdowne and the entrance to the Carlton Gardens.

Poly fleece heavyweight glove, gritty and damp. Labelled ‘Wind Fleece’ from Kathmandu, with rubber Ks across palm.

Found Tuesday July 19, in the early evening during spitting rain, outside Trades Hall in Carlton (corner Victoria and Lygon Streets).

Women’s RH glove, perforated leather with unusual semi-sheer poly panels, and elasticised detailing.

Found July 19, in the early afternoon, on Drummond Street, near Grattan.

Soft burgundy wool blend glove. Right hand, quite large. A bit balled but in fine condition.

Unisex tan glove with elasticised wrist detail. Soft, grubby leather with fleece lining. Labelled size M – quite generous. Insignia at wrist depicts an expansive tree.

Recovered July 4th in a Brotherhood skip; circumstances surrounding loss unknown.

Found July 10th or thereabouts on Falconer Street (near corner Michael Street), Fitzroy North.

Women’s leather glove (left hand), tiny perforations all over, red knit lining. Well-worn with slight discolouration but still has lots of life.

Large, light weight (stainless steel?) earring featuring stylised peacock.

Found at the Post Lantern Night Exhibit at The Parlour on Plenty Road, inside the market area during pack-up time, on the evening of Friday July 1.

Look at this couple of misfits, lost together! Discovered on a busy Frankston bound train, after 9am out of Flinders Street, Wednesday June 29.

A right and a left – both black, bally and well worn.

Knitted, RH patterned hand-warmer. Separate thumb insert, cotton (or other) lining.

Worn but in good nick.

Found corner Pigdon & Rathdowne Streets opposite the pub – Saturday June 18, early evening, after rain.

Left-handed knit glove – small size.

Internal label says, NOW.

Found on Macpherson Street, near Lygon Street, in North Carlton – Wednesday June 08, mid-morning.

June 07 – Found at entrance to RMIT University Building 9 (corner Bowen and Franklin Streets, City)…

… Cyclist’s glove? Left hand. Shiny black with lots of stitch details and suede leather patches at palm, wrist, and index & middle fingers. Cosy lining. Brand at wrist indicated by two parallel arrowheads (>>).

Found Tuesday June 07 at Woolworths Carlton, at the entrance turnstile – bizarrely, with a green M&M in its clutch.

Large, thick, knitted glove for left hand – a bit bally and undone at wrist seam.

Labelled ‘Thinsulate’ Insulation 40 gram.

Little two-tone pink fleece mitten.

Found on the way to French class, Monday evening May 16, in the Carlton Gardens (on the North Eastern side, at a fork of paths near the tennis courts).

Quel dommage.

Someone is missing their left sandal. It is an ordinary sandal but it is quite nice and probably very useful to this person. It is black and a bit like a thong. Its top bits are leather I think. It is a size 8 and says, ‘Venice Beach’ and ‘Classic Collection’ on the sole. My friend and I found it on Cardigan Street near some RMIT buildings a few nights ago.

Navy canvas slip-on shoe with rope and rubber sole, and natural stitch detail. Right foot; size 44; Calidad brand from Spain; well-worn, possibly chewed at heel.
